5 Bible Verses to Read When You're Feeling Anxious
Anxiety doesn't always knock politely. Sometimes it shows up in the middle of the night, in the school pickup line, in the quiet right before you fall asleep. It tightens your chest and crowds out everything else.
If that's where you are today, you're not broken and you're not alone. Scripture has something to say to the anxious heart — not a quick fix, but a place to stand. Here are five verses to come back to when the worry feels louder than everything else.
1. Philippians 4:6–7
"Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."
This is the one so many of us reach for first — and for good reason. Notice it doesn't say figure it out. It says bring it. Every situation, named out loud, handed over. The peace that follows isn't something you manufacture. It's a guard posted around your heart and mind.
Carry it with you: Tonight, before bed, name one worry out loud in prayer. Just one. Hand it over.
2. Isaiah 41:10
"So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand."
Anxiety loves to whisper that you're on your own. This verse answers it directly. The promise isn't that the hard thing disappears — it's that you won't face it by yourself. You are held.
3. 1 Peter 5:7
"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."
Short, but don't rush past it. Cast is an active word — to throw, to fling, to let go of completely. And the reason is tender: because he cares for you. Not because your worry is too small to matter, but because you matter that much.
4. Matthew 6:34
"Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."
So much of our anxiety lives in a future that hasn't happened yet. Jesus gently pulls us back to today. You don't have to carry tomorrow's weight on top of today's. You were only ever given grace for the day in front of you.
Carry it with you: When your mind races ahead, ask, Is this a today problem? If it isn't, set it down.
5. Psalm 94:19
"When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy."
This one meets you honestly. The psalmist doesn't pretend the anxiety wasn't real or wasn't great. It was. And right there, in the middle of it, comfort showed up. Joy and anxiety shared the same breath. Your hard feelings don't disqualify you from God's comfort — they're exactly where it meets you.
A Gentle Reminder
Reading a verse won't always make the anxiety vanish, and that's okay. The point isn't to perform your way back to calm. It's to remember whose you are while you wait for the storm to settle.
At Scripts Apparel, our whole heart is built around this idea — that the Word isn't just something we read, it's something we carry. Romans 12:2 calls us to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. That renewal often starts small: one verse, one breath, one moment of handing it over.
Whatever you're walking through today, you don't walk it alone.
